Are You Floating Down the River or Just Fighting All the Time?
Randomly, I just finished the first book in the Asimov Foundation series. I cannot think of a better fiction book to read right now.
Given everything that’s going on in the world, and especially as a U.S. citizen living in the middle of a deeply red state, all of this tracks great with Professor Jiang Xueqin’s Predictive History channel, of which the premise is: things are going to happen and roll, and history repeats itself.
Whereas the Bible plainly puts it, there’s nothing new under the sun. It all keeps happening over and over again. The details may be different, but the story remains the exact same.
Where Asimov is completely reasonable, Professor Jiang works his theories through a close, spiritual reading of classic books, such as the Iliad, the Odyssey, and Dante’s Divine Comedy. (I’m choking through the Inferno, really trying with the Iliad.)
And although Foundation is a little tough at times with the endless amount of talking—like the first Star Wars prequel that started off in some weird conference room—it all kind of says the same thing: the world is gonna be the world, and there are epochs, and you’re a very small part in it.
I was just telling somebody this morning that musically, I just try to jump in the water and float down the river.
DJing is working right now. The variety show’s going really well. And the Grateful Dead band is working.
The world is the way it is. As one individual person, there’s nothing you can do about it. You can’t even change the way things go on your street.
So you just have to make sure that your small world is how you want it, to the ability you’re able to affect change.
I don’t know if this is me being 60%+ through what’s supposed to be my natural life or what, but I really do feel like I see so much more than I used to.
I’d rather be on this side of it than the other side of it.
More music, more work I like, and more time with the people I love.
