Here Comes the Sunday Weave, Y’all
Another glimpse into the life of a high-functioning amateur musician.
I had some serious jams in the home office this weekend with some old stuff that I love. Just three units, all kind of working together, with the SP-404 as the brain. Hugely gratifying.
I played a lot of bass. And with two rehearsals this week and a bass gig, I feel like I’m already pretty well on my way prep-wise.
I ended the week with net zero stuff. I always try to unload a few things, but I sold a guitar and bought a piece, kind of the final piece for my current DJ setup, which is two midi platters and then a mixer.
But I also bought a $50 case off Marketplace that, best I can figure, is about $400. A Gator tour case, beautiful rolling kind of thing.
Interestingly, it’s taken a really long time for all the DJ gear that was bought during COVID to hit Marketplace. But boy, is it ever hitting.
I sold my little Denon portable unit a while back and was able to buy something bigger and more pro, piece by piece, with patience. And I’m net cash positive.
I did skip the Austin City Limits Music Festival. I always feel like a bit of a loser when I do that, but having played the festival in ‘22, this is not a flex, but it’s just hard to go back.
I don’t have any friends that like to run around there, and I really, insofar as live music, would rather be playing it than seeing it at this point in my life.
So God bless them all for going.
One of my kids came back in town for it and actually ran into James Talarico. He was in the main video that everybody took and ran with, and still, I mean, who knows how many millions of views, and it’s just crazy—there he is with him.
So once again, he may have that Torian thing of being famous-adjacent. Which is the best place to be. Because then you don’t get as many threatening letters and stuff like that.
Anyway, busy week last week, busy week coming up. Music all over the place.
Wouldn’t have it any other way.
