Kids Know About Music

Yesterday I got so overtaken with music that I forgot to even post my blog post. Which I’ve done a couple times before.

But I’ve been doing and getting my preparations made for a seventh-grade dance, which I talked about a day or two ago. And I’m taking it very seriously. And I’m still taking it very seriously.

It’s easy for a Gen X sort to have a bad attitude about new music, and all the nerds on the internet will give you nothing but permission for doing that because it’s not this or that.

And we grew up modeling that behavior with classic rock radio beating us over the head that—whatever we were listening to wasn’t real. But apparently what was real was Molly Hatchet and Kansas.

I don’t even know if classic rock is still a thing anymore. And people, do people consider it better or worse?

Anyway, I was just taken away by some of this music, including Chappell Roan and Taylor Swift, and a bunch of other people I can’t remember, and it’s as good as anything I can remember.

It’s super poppy. It all follows a form. It nails the feel element, which is the most important thing. It sounds good. And these people are talented.

And it’s really shown me that I had a big hole kind of in my DJing stack, and it’s one of those deals that’s binary. Like, I don’t know how I was DJing without all this stuff. I do, but now that I’m able to put it into the mix, it’s just such a great thing to have.

And I don’t wanna wrap by teaching a LinkedIn lesson. But I will say, you could do worse than taking a seventh-grade dance DJ gig.

Tonight, I’m super pumped. We’ll report back Saturday or Sunday on how it went. But I can tell you right now, it’s gonna go well.
