Old times are Old Stories
So we have a gig coming up at a bar I have a lot of history with, and just like this blog, I've been telling stories, and they've been super popular on Instagram (popular for me anyway).
People love stories-ridiculous stories. I was involved in running this place, and all the dumb stuff that happens, people just cannot get enough of, especially if they're ultimately harmless.
And I think that, you know, this gig is gonna be great, and we'll do awesome. We'll remember the feeling and none of the details. Especially with the asphyxia and then amnesia of the stage.
By asphyxia, which I heard John Taylor, bassist for Duran Duran, describe, when you go on stage, you can only do so much. It's like you don't have the same amount of oxygen, and you've got to really watch it. Some nights are better than others, and you have more skills than you thought. Others, not so much.
And by amnesia, I mean you can come off stage sometimes and not realize that it happened. You'll know if it was a good gig, how the show went, all that good stuff, but you never really quite know what happened. Time gets set on fast forward.
But like I said, the stories around that are what people care about. Because they relate to them, and they bring all their stuff to that story.
And at the end of the day, you want community and to know that you've been through some of the same stuff that these other people have been through.
It could be your coworker shatting upon you when I'm talking about a band shitting on you, or somebody writing some lukewarm words about you. Me? A reporter.
The stories are important, and I've seen it here. When I'm telling them, that's what really sends readership through the roof, and it's fun to watch.
So now I spend time thinking of these stories, because they are a better way to say what I'm trying to say. They connect.
I don't know, maybe it's different between my best friend and my other best friend, who's my dog. Buck doesn't have any stories to tell, but my friend has every story in the world on me.
