Sunday Weave on a Saturday

Another 3-gig weekend. DJ set Friday afternoon with an English Teeth gig Friday night. And then an all-day tailgate thing on Saturday, of which I had about a 2.5-hour DJ set.

I still think there’s no other way to learn how to do it, other than to do it. Meaning if you need to learn how to do something, go get a gig. Maybe learn a few things, some rudimentaries, but then go find a gig.

Nothing gets you prepared like having a gig. There’s no better pressure, really, in the world.

Like, especially early gigs, ‘cause you’ve got to pound on your friends to come. And although they’re the most supportive, no matter what they say or do, you’re always going to think they’re judging you harshly. So you’ll be at your best.

Anyhoo, I really feel like my mixing has come a long way in the past months.

Now I’m fully immersed in Djay Pro world, but you still have to mix. And automix, I don’t know that anyone uses it besides beginners. You get to a point where you just really can’t use it.

I was actually trying to use the auto-start feature in their software, and it just doesn’t work for me.

So anyway, this is a Sunday weave on Saturday. But everything felt great.

I used a couple different setups for 3 different gigs, ut I used one setup for it all and just didn’t use this or that. Meaning board was the same- just used different functions for each show. That all worked really well. Minimized packing and re-packing.

I did use my old Mixtour versus the Mixtour Pro, and it kind of taught me what I really like about the Mixtour Pro, and actually mixed better on it the next day.

So, cross-training also, huge advocate.

I really like the combination of the SP-404MKII with the Mixtour Pro. That’s really versitle.

I was using a bunch of Halloween sound effects on the Halloween gig, and obviously everybody appreciates that. Kind of the worse you do, the better you do, which is always fun.

I’ll see if I can post the setlist.
