Sunday Weave #?

Happy Sunday, it's time for the Sunday Weave (where I just go on and on about a few things).

Had an outdoor DJ gig yesterday. Austin, Texas, for a 2:30 football game, which means it was hot AF. Way too hot to be DJing. Multiple hot equipment failures.

But it was a great gig.

I used my new setup, which is the LC6000 MIDI platter, the Teenage Engineering Sidekick mixer, and my iPad.

I came out of the Sidekick mixer on an eighth-inch cable into a junction that converts it into quarter-inch, and then straight to my Thump Go system, which is the eight-inch speakers and then subwoofers, two of each.

Sounded amazing.

I don't think I even thought about not having a crossfader, so that's kind of fixed.

I found myself almost using no effects. Just delay a couple times, which you can kind of hold the delay button on the Sidekick, and then bring up the other track in loop form, and it is so cool.

And then, if you want to put an envelope on the delay, you just slowly let off on the pressure on the push button. So nice.

And now, instead of getting another mixer, I may actually get another KO. So I have 3 more channel options.

The failures were heat-related and crowd-related. Spotify, I lost streaming quickly, but I had a backup plan, and then I had to throw the iPad in the cooler for a little bit when it overheated. I just threw it right on the ice.

Doing it again this week, and I'll probably just bring little cold packs to put right above it.

But all in all, really fun.

And again, people are coming up and talking to me the whole time. These people at this tailgate—actually, I'm one of the ones who puts it on—and being able to mix, cue, loop, and fade one track into the other, no crossfader, while talking to people and trying to hear what's going on in my one ear, it's pretty crazy.

I do have a pretty cheap NUX wireless system, and that's come in real handy lately. I need to use it every time.

And also, I've just got a DJ box now packed that's untouchable for other stuff. Just grab my ears in and out of it, but I may consider getting a second set of ears, so I just don't have to think about it.

So, chalk it up to experience.

These things are easy.

I don't think the equipment matters for me anymore.

I do what I do on anything.
